The Pawtucket & Providence Figure Skating Club grants professional privileges to coaches for the purpose of conducting private lessons on Club ice sessions. PPFSC has established two categories of coaching
Full privileges: The coach may teach the approved discipline on any Club session on which the given discipline is allowed. The coach must be age 18 or older.
Restricted privileges: Coaches with restricted privileges may teach elements from Snowplow Sam through Free Skate 4. The coach must be age 16 or older. Any coach under the age of 18 must have a contract signed by a parent/guardian.
In order to qualify, the following test requirements must be met for each category of privileges.
Discipline | Full Privileges Requirement | Restreicted Privileges Requirement |
MIF | Novice | Juvenile |
Freestyle | Intermediate | Pre-Juvenile |
Dance | Silver | Pre-Silver |
Learn to Skate Instructor: An individual must qualify for full privileges in at least one discipline in order to be considered as a Learn to Skate Instructor. Learn to Skate Instructors are appointed by PPFSC to teach in its Learn to Skate Program during ice time designated for this purpose.
Approval as a Learn to Skate Instructor is not a guarantee of a coaching position in the program. It simply signifies eligibility to be hired by the program should the need arise.
As a part of the contract with PPFSC, each coach must provide proof that he or she has met these requirements:
- Coaches must comply with the requirements and recommendations for coaches as set forth by U.S. Figure Skating on the USFS website.
- Coaches who teach only in the Learn to Skate Program must conform to the current Learn to Skate USA requirements for instructors and, if teaching private lessons, must have professional liability insurance.
